How Is Your Kiva Doing?

Okay, if this question puts a frown on your face, here are some basics about Kiva.

KIVA is a  non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty.

Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of micro finance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. Learn more about how it works.

How Kiva Works from Kiva on Vimeo.

By providing access to funding and resources Kiva, offers the opportunity to many all over the world to help their communities by helping themselves, and start or grow little businesses and initiatives that support families and communities all over the world

Since Kiva was founded in 2005:

  • 626,971 Kiva lenders
  • $246 million in loans
  • 98.87% Repayment rate

Kiva works with:

  • 140 Field Partners
  • 450 volunteers around the world
  • 60 different countries
Peter and Linda Pfann are proud to be assisting KIVA in their efforts to improve others and their community. We have so far been able to place 8 loans over the past few months. We know it is only a little, but all little things make a difference to those that are most affected.
We are not seeking praise or thank you's , we just hope to raise awareness and if you feel so inclined to to join KIVA and their efforts to wipe out poverty from the world.

Here is a little overview of the loans we have made so far and the people that received them.

Hi Jerry,

Kiva is a great way to give a little and help a lot in places in the world where a few dollars make a big impact.

This is a great organization.  It's wonderful to see how a little bit goes such a long way.

Hi Kathleen,

The concept is simple yet so very effective, it sure feels like actually reaching out to those that need it and making things happen for them.

Kiva is such a great organization.  I first heard about it several years ago on the Oprah Show, and I sent in just $25, and when it was repaid, I told them to keep re-loaning it.  I assume it has been recycled a number of times by now.  I suppose it's time to send dome more and do the same thing.  Some of the borrowers can do so much and change their lives drastically with just a little.

Hi Susan,

So True,

we try to add a few dollars every listing and sale (although we do forget sometimes) we know it makes a huge difference for those that benefits from the loan

That is indeed a worthy group that I had never heard of. Another one is SEVA: check out the link, they bring the gift of sight to people around the globe.

Hi Barbara- Jo,

Kiva, is a very active organization with a simple yet effective method of getting at a very grass roots level to take ownership of their own opportunities, and it seems to work very well

Hi Connie,

Thank you for doing so, Kiva is not really charity, in the true sense of the the word charity, although much good is achieved.

Hi Cal,

If I recal correctly it was you that pointed out Kiva in one of your earlier post, and yes micro financing is a great way to offer opportunity, yet retain pride and independence.
