This is such a wonderful checklist - many great ideas here.  Homeowners need to be proactive about home maintenance.  It's so importatnt to takei care of things when they're small before they become big and expensive problems.

Posted by Marchel Peterson, Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro (Results Realty) over 9 years ago

Hi Karen,

you are so correct, when we eat an elephant one bite at the time, it is not so bad, and that is really what we suggest with home maintenance

Posted by Peter Pfann @ eXp Realty Pfanntastic Properties in Victoria, Since 1986., Talk To or Text Peter 250-213-9490 (eXp Realty, Victoria BC www.pfanntastic.com) over 9 years ago

Hi Marchel,

most owners want to do the work some do it themselves, some hire people, with others it get on to the back burner, and things start to compound pretty quick.

Peter & Linda - Preventive maintenance can save some BIG bucks down the road.  I recently had a discussion with a homeowner who found that the flooding issue in his basement was due to his gutters being totally clogged.  He had the totally clogged gutters cleaned out and we have had massive rains since and guess what? No wet basement.

Posted by Cheryl Ritchie, Southern Maryland 301-980-7566 (RE/MAX Leading Edge www.GoldenResults.com) over 9 years ago

Hi Peter and Linda - This is a great maintenance checklist.  However, I think that many of these items should be checked in April or May so that the contractors could be lined up as early as possible before the weather gets colder and the days get shorter.

Posted by FN LN over 9 years ago

Linda and Peter,

I think a series would be great. Most folks never think about most of the items on your list until there is trouble!

Hi Marc,

The trouble with the large continent is that what needs doing in March in one part of North America, can't be done till June in Others, so yes, in some cases one may need to make adjustments, additions and deletions.

Very cool! As a home inspector, I love it when our community is serious about training and educating homeowners. I have hundreds of pictures that are testimonial to the sometimes gross ignorance of homeowners who either don't maintain their property, don't know how to maintain their property, or those homeowners who are certain they have the skills to fix everything that goes wrong, their way!  Thanks for taking the time.
