Greater Victoria Public / Farmers Market Season is Here

Greater Victoria Public Market Schedule

Greater Victoria Public / Farmers Market Season is Here
Growing and buying local produce, food and products is a long tradition in Greater Victoria, and with that an ever growing network of Public and or Farmers Markets have become very very popular. today, one can find a public or farmers market  just about every day in one area or another somewhere in Greater Victoria.

Aside from buying local product, attending a public market or farmers market is a bit of a trow back to the days that we used to buy daily essentials from the farmers, and or bakers either by home delivery and or at public markets. Greater Victoria has a long history of public markets going back to the early 1900's. With so many local small to mid sized farmers, bakers and other food producers, and the drive towards buying local products, it should really not be any surprise that so many local  products  are seeing a renewed local interest by people everywhere. some of the municipalities are even amending their zoning by-laws to allow for some form of "micro-farming"

Victoria Public Market

Within Greater Victoria there are a few public markets that have been around for years, like the Moss St.  and Peninsula Markets, and they have had a big local following. In the schedule below it becomes obvious that there are now markets in all but very few of the local Greater Victoria communities and growing year by year.

Pfanntastic Food From our Backyard

The sense of community,  and good country food, neighbours buying and selling from neighbours, is a very cool experience. I must admit that coming from Holland, I have a nostalgic relationship with public markets, as a place I learned a lot about small business, produce, and products for sale every Wednesday and Saturdays, as a child growing up it was our trip to the market that was special, a free orange here, some candy there, cool toys, some craft people showing their art..... you get it, it was very cool for kids of every age..

For more local Greater Victoria "pfunn", we have listed all the various Public and or Farmers Markets that we could find information about, please check them out and more important, go visit them and support the local merchants, farmers and growers...... How much more Green can we be by going totally local....
For those that are operating or coordination a market that we have not reported on, please let us know and it will be our pleasure to add your market to the list.

In BC there is a BC Association  of Farmers Markets, that offers great resources for those that are interested in finding out more about the in's and outs regarding running, operating and membership in this Farmer's Market Association. The Victoria Downtown Public Market Society is also a great resource for additional information about a drive towards the return of a local "permanent" public market .
