Everything I Ever Needed I Learned in Kindergarten

Everything I Ever Needed, I Learned in Kindergarten

The Scene          “De Montessori Kleuterschool in Hilversum, Holland” August, 1961......A Current Picture of what was my kindergarten school

My very first day in Kindergarten, I just tuned 5 and for the first time in my life I am in a Classroom........WOW......
Reflecting on it now, even 50 years later, it was one of the scariest and at the same time most exciting days in my life...

The first day ever with “big boy pants”, you know the ones with legs all the way to your ankles.....
First day in a group with other kids, that for the most part I have never seen before (or since), and at the time my “social skills” where none existing, except for Paul......some how Paul and I got along very well, more on that later.
Old Montessori ClassroomBut lets get back to the Classroom experience.....the exciting part to me was very much like a famous scene from the movie “Short Circuit” where the robot enters a bookstore and says “Input”.......
The joy and excitement of getting a whole entire toy store full of goodies to play with every day,  was and still is one of the most thrilling moments of my life, (to date.....)
At that very moment (although I may not have realized it at the time) a lifetime of exploring, learning and discovery started, and is not likely to ever end.

Other memories from KindergartenSorry Paul

  • Finding out I needed glasses......... bummer
  • Participating in Easter Parade (and eating the treats from the decorated crosses)
  • My first fight, sorry for the black eye Paul.
  • Bakfiets, a still used European tricycle, used for moving stuffRipped my “Big Boy Pants” on the 2 nd. day of school, and did not get any new ones after that until I was in elementary school......
  • The rides from and to School in the Bakfiets with Mijnheer Sluis

I knew then as I know today “Learning is Fun”... Learning and teaching by doing is still the way I learn just about everything.
So what Did I learn in Kindergarten that I still use today.....

  • Reading, writing and basic math for one. (this here blog is as good as a current example as any that I still use these skills)
  • Cutting, pasting, colouring, sorting and arranging pictures. Again our kindergarten education has proven essential for being good in real estate.
  • Sharing and playing with others in and out of the sand box.... Being in Real Estate proofs that I am very comfortable working with anybody even if they draw a line in the sand.......
  • Learning all the timeThe love for learning, and teaching.... Everyday we learn new and exciting ways to assist our clients, and our industry better and in more ways, and try to share as many as possible with others.
  • Learning discipline (the hard way) Today we extend the respect, patience, consideration and care for others by applying the Golden Rule in all parts of my life.

The Lessons from “Kindergarten” have served me well, now if I can just figure out why I needed to attend all these other years in school.......that is for a next time....;)
