Victoria BC, Then and Now Part 1.

Almost  110 Years later, and nothing much has changed with the appeal and charm of Victoria Inner Harbor, or has it?

We all love Greater Victoria, and we all want it to be and remain the best place on earth to call our home. Part of Victoria's appeal is the "Old Country"  feel and look. Some say that Victoria and its residents is more British than what you would experience in Great Brittan today, I am not sure of that, but we will let you decide on that one after you have visited our Great Region.

Victoria BC Government Building ca. 1900Peter's family comes from the Dutch book sellers and publishing trade, and many many years ago, they published a book called "Amsterdam Then and Now" the way the book worked, was an old (1700's) print of a street scene in Amsterdam and on the next page a Picture of the same location in its current look.

This concept has given us  some inspiration and we decided to have some fun with this and re-create a picture journal and historic review of Victoria (and all other communities in the Capital Region of  Vancouver Island)

Now obviously there are no prints and pictures of Victoria in the 1700's and if there are, they are so rare that it is unlikely that we would be able to reproduce them here but we do have a good long history of keeping pictures, snapshots, drawings and paintings from more recent time.Victoria BC Government Building recently

Over the next days and weeks, we would like to encourage you and anyone you know to seek out any and all of your old pictures, postcards, prints, drawings etc. and either scan and email them to us, or let us know by phone or email and it will be our pleasure to make arrangements (at our cost off course, to reproduce these older pictures to computer images for use in our Blog journal together with pictures that we will take ourselves and or possibly ask our site visitors to send to us.

Each picture that we receive and use will be given full credit off course, (unless you do not want us too) and we hope that you will share with us your stories as to how you remember the days from when the pictures where taken.

We hope that you will enjoy these stories and pictures from and about Greater Victoria, the place we call Paradise.
